Mountain Orchids

Titanotrichum oldhamii (clone 1)

Titanotrichum oldhamii is an old world Gesneriad from Taiwan. It is said to inhabit shady areas along creeks, particularly on wet, dripping cliffs. As such, it seems to prefer never drying out, and yet it will also not tolerate excessive water - that would otherwise drown the rhizomes/roots.

Late in the season mature plants will produce 12"+ tall vertical spires of golden yellow flowers with heavily-marked red interiors.

This plant is also claimed to be surprisingly winter-hardy (supposedly down to 5F with careful siting).  I suspect that if you can grow Seemannia outdoors, then this would respond well somewhat similarly.

Since this species seems quite self-sterile, having more than one clone or form of it will allow it to breed. This is "clone 1".
