Seemannia sylvatica hails from South America, primarily from southern Peru to Bolivia. It is an upright grower which bears glossy green lanceolate foliage clumps which offset the rich red-orange flower colors!
This eye-catching species makes a showy garden addition in shady, moist places in Zone 8-10. In colder climates, it can be grown potted and treated as one would Achimenes - meaning its little rhizomes can be dug and stored inside during winter. It can also be treated as an outdoor tender perennial - meaning one can plant the rhizomes in spring after things have warmed up, enjoy the plants over summer and then dig and save the rhizomes after the first frost knocks them back.
1-2 young rhizomes per 2 1/2" pot.
