Dendrobium Illusion is a primary hybrid between Dendrobium cuthbertsonii and Dendrobium lawesii. D. cuthbertonii is very dominant in it's hybrid offspring and to find that these stay rather small is no suprise. The mature plants seldom exceed 4" tall and the growth habit is of a desireable clumpy, not trailing habit. It is a more easily grown plant than D. cuthbertsonii itself although it still prefers temps a bit on the cooler side.
This hybrid was named "Illusion" because both parent species come in many colors and thus the cross could be remade many times using different colored parents to achieve varyingly colored offspring.
This remake uses bicolor parents on both sides. However, as with all of this sort of oxyglossum breeding, one should expect all sorts of color possibilites to show up.
These are blooming-size seedlings and are potted in small 1 1/2" dia clay pots.
