Begonia sutherlandii (dissected form)

This is the unusual and stunning dissected-leaf form of Begonia sutherlandii, a tuberous perennial plant. Historically it has been referred to as "forma densiserrata" and also just as "Begonia dissecta", but both these are just now synonyms which refer to this leaf-shape variation of Begonia sutherlandii.

The leaves on this form are deeply incised/toothed lending a very fern-like effect to its appearance. Flowers, just like the traditional form, are produced in massive abundance, are up to an inch in diameter, and are a very attractive clear orange with yellow anthers.

The species is from the Southern Highlands of Tanzania - often found cascading over rocks or hanging from trees in damp shady locations. The growth habit lends itself well to cultivation in hanging baskets.  This tuberous species also prefers a dry winter rest.

Offered here are 2 1/2" pot size plants.
