Begonia pengii

Begonia pengii is another of the amazing new species coming out of Vietnam/China in recent years.  Like many of the others, this is another that hails from rocky limestone regions.  This species closely resembles B. locii, except that this bears peltate foliage (petiole attaches near center rather than at edge of leaf).

As it is fairly new to cultivation, my experience with it is limited.  So far, however, it has responded well using the almost-closed terrarium type of culture that seems to suit so many similar rhizomatous species.  However, I suspect it will adapt to varying humidity and maybe even do well out of an enclosed atmosphere (greenhouse, etc).

Offered here as husky young plants in 2" pots.
