Begonia pedatifida is a highland species from mountainous regions in southwest China. For those growing outside, it is said to be hardy to zone 8, or even zone 7 with care. For everyone else, like myself, we can grow it as a beautiful and elegant container plant.
This form of the plant bears reddish tinted veins and it seems to hold that color pretty much all season.
NOTE: While this species is rhizomatous (instead of tuberous), its rhizomes are substantial and serve to sustain it when it goes leafless in cold weather. Its too new to me to be sure, but i suspect that if kept inside, it is likely to remain green/active all year.
Husky young plants in 2 1/2" pots.
