I've not really delved into Begonia hybrids as there are so many really beautiful species that are deserving of attention. However, even despite my limited growing space, I felt this one might be worth growing.
Begonia 'Mumtaz' bears suprisingly heavy-textured foliage (reminiscent of the coarseness of cabbage leaves). They are a wonderful wine to burgundy color and rather glossy (see photos showing the difference between daylight and flash).
Adding the perfect compliment to the foil of beautiful leaves are the deep cherry-pink flowers which are held on matching burgundy stems.
I've not yet experimentd with this plant to see what it will tolerate but I do know it performs well in terrarium settings. However, its somewhat leathery foliage suggests it might be more tolerant.
Beautiful plants, currently in 3" pot. Likes some humidity.
