Begonia variegata (formerly as B. masoniana var. maculata) is a stunning species from China. Superficially, it looks like a far better form of the more common B. masoniana (Iron Cross Begonia) and grows similarly. As you can see, its foliage pattern is different and much more dramatic. This species makes a very attractive Orchid companion plant and does exceedingly well in greeenhouses or even in large sized terrariums (do not overwater).
The foliage is a fascinating mixture of rough textures, hairs, radiating red vein markings over emerald green.
These are husky young plants, currently in 3" pots.
