Begonia tapatia

Begonia tapatia
Begonia tapatia

Formerly offered as "sp. Nayarit" from Mexico.

I've attached a few in-situ photos showing the habitat and the area (Nayarit) in which it was found growing.  Flowers are pretty upright spires of pink - although the plant can produce bulbils in their place if the conditions aren't quite suitable for flower production. The foliage of this form of the species appears to be rather unique - dark black-green with distinct spots.

The foliage on this TUBEROUS species is smooth and fairly heavy textured. It seems to prefer quite a fair amount of light and, since it was found around 1800m, it may well not appreciate too much heat.

Offered here as bulbil-grown plants (from one of the most strongly patterned plants) in 2 1/2" pots.
