Begonia froebelii

Begonia froebelii
Begonia froebelii

This Ecuador-Andean tuberous species is a stunning plant with sizable intense red flowers and grey-green foliage. Since it is from reasonably high elevation, do not expect this one to like hot humid summers.  Best culture will be in bright, slightly arid settings with not too high temps.  This tuberous species needs a cool-ish and dry rest in the winter - during which time it will be totally leafless.

Plant offered here are near flowering size, in 3" pot.

Keep in mind that these,  like many of the other tuberous South American species, are NOT  good choices for overly warm climates.  For this reason, this species and other Andean ones like it, can be somewhat of a challenge.
