Begonia carrieae

Begonia carrieae
Begonia carrieae

This beautiful coarse-leaved hairy species is from Chiapas state, in Mexico.  It prefers some humidity but is NOT a terrarium subject.  It eventually will form broad 8" dia. leaves which later produce 12" high scapes of large white flowers.  From my experience, it does not reproduce from leaf cuttings, though stem cuttings will work.

Immature plants are often heavily red-tinged. Red tints all but totally disappear as plant matures.

These are seedling size plants currently in 2 1/2" pots.
