Begonia bataiensis (green-white)
Begonia bataiensis (green-white)

Very beautiful, quite variable in markings and leaf color, this is a small growing and tuberous species from Vietnam.  It is a free bloomer.  Despite its tuberous nature, it seems very amenable to cultivation.   I grow it as a terrarium subject and if it starts looking pretty tired, I un-pot it, clean it up and give the tuber-rhizomes a little few week rest of dry.  They are pretty free with re-sprouting and i've even notice that one can usually keep them going without a harsh rest, though they still benefit from repotting even year.

These are propagations from a form with mostly silver-white markings over a green leaf.

Sturdy division-grown plants, currently in 2 1/4" pots.
