Maxillaria coccinea

This is a neat species which ranges from Dominican Republic on through Venezuela, Colombia and into Brazil. Found at elevations of 500 to 1000 meters, it bears  long strap-like leaves atop compressed pseudobulbs which are formed on a short internode rhizome.  It does well in pots but also can be accommodated in a basket or even mounted.
