  Pearcea hypocyrtiflora
A charmingly attractive oddity. This plant, a Gensneriad, develops from a rhizomatous and spreading root structure. The foliage is attractively colored in red and green and the flowers are little "balloons" of red-orange. For me, it has been a good grower, performing well in shallow but wide containers of humusy, free-draining potting soil. It seems to prefer warmth and does best if kept above 65F. Even so, this plant may rest a little in the winter and even shed some leaves at that time.

A fellow plant addict had this to say regarding Pearcea:
"I think you should market it as being every bit as wonderful as most orchids, a whole lot more wonderful than an awful lot of them, and a whole lot easier to grow"

Starting to develop buds now.   Near Blooming Size.   Mature Height: 6"

  Phalaenopsis schilleriana
I typically do not grow Phals, but this is my favorite of the Genus and I thought i'd offer a few. P. schilleriana is a species that bears wonderfully attractive gray-green foliage barred in darker green or purple-ish tints. To this mosaic it combines its soft pink and typically fragrant flowers which make this a favorite of many growers. It makes multiple branching spikes which carry multitudes of flowers in spring.  Easy.   Near Blooooming Size.   Mature Height: 6"

This is a gem of a Vireya-type Rhododendron. Small and relatively compact to begin with, it responds very well to pruning if it needs to be shaped or shortened further. The other delight is that it is also very free with it's glowing, bright red, 1 1/2 in. blooms, even as a young plant!
